The Association of Ukrainian Women in Great Britain

The Association of Ukrainian Women in Great Britain (AUW) was formed in 1948 and is a Corporate Member of the AUGB. Governed by a National Committee, the organisation has 13 branches. These are located mainly in England with liaison officers in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Areas of activity include:
The Association also runs the Alla Horska Folk Art Museum, housed at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in Manchester, which has the largest collection of traditional Ukrainian folk art in Western Europe, including old and rare examples of decorative embroidery and traditional costumes, carved wooden items and decorated Easter eggs (Pysanky).

A particular focus of activity is charitable and humanitarian work. Our Ukrainian Children’s Appeal Fund was created in 1990, initially to help child victims of the Chornobyl disaster. Since 1990 we have raised around £2 million for humanitarian projects in Ukraine, supporting children, mothers and families and voluntary organisations in Ukraine. Since February2022 we have focused on helping innocent victims of Russia’s brutal invasion ofUkraine, including orphans and children with special needs.
