The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) is the largest representative body for Ukrainians and those of Ukrainian descent in the UK. We exist to develop, promote and support the interests of the Ukrainian community in the UK.
Our Association was founded in 1946 by Ukrainians who came to Great Britain at the end of the Second World War
We operate a network of local AUGB branches, most of them with their own social/cultural centres across the UK
At local level, we support Ukrainian Community Schools, Day Centres and a range of cultural and social activities
We have a highly respected Shevchenko Library & Archive in London. Since our inception we have published a large number of books, periodicals & newspapers
We work closely with other community organisations, including the Association of Ukrainian Women, the Association of Ukrainian Teachers and youth organisations. We have a good working relationship with the Embassy of Ukraine in the United Kingdom
We organise various campaigns, programmes or exhibitions to promote and commemorate aspects of Ukrainian history and culture. For example, to raise awareness, we have held events annually across the country to commemorate the 1932-33 Holodomor in which millions of Ukrainians, including a third of Ukraine’s children, were forcibly starved to death. The catalogue of similar events relating to poignant Ukrainian anniversaries, prominent national historical figures or current events are too long to list in this brief introduction, but they are significant and take place on national and local scales.
The objects for which the AUGB is established are to
- Develop, promote and support the interests of the Ukrainian community and those of Ukrainian descent in the United Kingdom;
- Foster and advance Ukrainian knowledge, culture, arts, heritage and traditions;
- Provide advice, welfare and other assistance to relieve suffering and hardship to Ukrainians in need, including those in Ukraine;
- Grow and develop facilities for social, cultural and educational interaction;
- Promote & foster inter-cultural understanding and harmony between Ukrainian, British & other ethnic communities in Great Britain;
- Support and promote the development of freedom and democracy, human and civic rights in Ukraine and support Ukraine’s territorial integrity and continued existence as an independent state

Internationally, the AUGB is a member of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) and the European Congress of Ukrainians (EKY), and over the years has worked with various organisations in Ukraine, including governmental and academic institutions
