They were joined, among others, by Ukraine’s Representatives to the UN and EU and Ambassadors to Canada, USA and Portugal.

Messages of support were also relayed via video from Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister and leaders of the Ukrainian Catholic and Orthodox Churches.

During the opening prayer, delegates were asked to remember AUGB’s former Chair, Zenko Lastowiecki, who passed away earlier this year.

The meeting adopted the reports of UWC President, Pavlo Grod, on the UWC’s activities during the past 12 months, the finance director and the internal audit committee. It also approved the UWC’s budget for 2021.

Roman Vashchuk, Stefan Romaniw and Natalia Poshyvailo-Towler respectively presented summaries from three round-table discussions held in preceding weeks on ‘International Politics and Countering Russian Aggression’, ‘Support for Ukraine’ and ‘Development of the Ukrainian community worldwide’. The conclusions were incorporated into the AGM’s resolutions, presented by Michael Sawkiw and approved by the meeting.

During the AGM, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Canada, Andriy Shevchenko, made a special announcement, awarding Ukraine’s Cross of Ivan Mazeppa to the UWC’s First Vice-President and Chair of the World Federation of Ukrainian Womens Organisations, Anna Kisil, for her significant personal contribution to strengthen the international authority of Ukraine, the development of interstate partnership and for her highly beneficial community work.

Former UWC President, Eugene Czolij, was also congratulated on his most recent appointment as Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Montreal.
