Every day, the BBC’s World Service broadcasts a history programme, “Witness”, which hears from people who lived through world events.
In Ukraine in the 1930s millions of people starved to death in a famine which became known as the Holodomor. Years of bad harvests were exacerbated by Soviet policies, leading to mass starvation. Alan Johnston has been investigating memories of that time.
